FACE IT! 2024 in progress
A participatory action taken in the face of the plastic overproduction crisis, which we still have no way of disposing of. Everything we can buy is wrapped in plastic. It is our consumerist everyday life that protects objects, food, and clothing. Wrapping is a perverse protective measure. This act is a tragicomic reflection on actions against global warming that are losing out to global opportunism.

The FACE IT! action consists of creating a shield from plastic waste that will insulate the “sun” – the recycling of my project: Mystery of the Sun. This procedure changes the context of the previous work. The internal light of the installation highlights the eyes hidden under the waste, which confront the viewer with a 5-meter plastic object. The object refers to the Sun, the planet Earth, and the oocyte. When exposed to the sun, plastic breaks down into substances that enter our bodies, damaging tissues and disrupting hormone balance, which affects both the acceleration of puberty and fertility.

According to Prof. Shanna Swan, by 2045, the chemicals in plastics will make most couples infertile, leaving them with the option of in vitro fertilization. The 2024 production was shown in the Imperial Shipyard in the Creative Space WL4 Mleczny Piotr in Gdańsk, in the MOK community center in Więcbork, and in the community center in Łódź during the Light.Move.Festival, an international festival of kinetic light art.
