MISSING THE POINT 2019
This work explores a personal theme. It is a child’s profession of faith, which I juxtapose with the institutional structure of the church, in the form of a uniform white jigsaw puzzle missing a key central piece. The image of the puzzle alludes to the iconic painting of the Sacred Heart of Jesus—the bridegroom and companion of my childhood. Assembling the white puzzle pieces becomes an impossible task. It is a kind of ritual requiring focus and meditation.
The work poses a question about the “essence” in the context of the challenges faced today by the church, but also by humanity, living in pursuit of a hedonistic, unreflective “puzzle-solving” of life. In the face of the challenges of the modern world, the essence of human nature undergoes constant modifications, during which we begin to lose its original meaning. The work was originally created for an exhibition at the Künstlerhaus Göttingen in Germany. It has been presented in Toruń, Olsztyn, Cieszyn, Warsaw, and Piotrków Trybunalski. In 2024, it was invited to the 20th anniversary of the largest event related to paper art: the Lucca Biennale Cartasia in Italy.
